Kenza lives with her father Ouira and grandfather Weljo in the countryside of Curaçao. Ouira is a determined and rational police officer, while Weljo identifies with the original inhabitants and spirituality. As Weljo prepares his passing to the world of spirits, the relationship between them starts to escalate and Kenza searches for her own path.
This is Eche Janga’s second feature film, who is from Curaçao, an island of the Dutch Caribbean region. This is the story of eleven-year-old Kenza who is wandering between her rational father and spiritual grandfather. It's also the director’s autobiographical story. The pain and emptiness that surge after her mother’s death led her to think about the afterlife. This is a discovery of her true self, with messages of finding roots across borders and over generations. (Danny KANG)
Dutch/Curaçaoan director Eché Janga graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2010. After directing several award-winning short films which screened at festivals like Oberhausen Short Film Festival and Aspen Short Fest, he made his first feature film HELIUM in 2014. HELIUM was selected for the competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
